Beautifully Talented: Singer ShawnPon

Hi Rosebuds,

The one thing I love about being a makeup artist outside of the artistry is the opportunity to work with and for some incredible people. It's always fun to learn about my clients and their talents. I met an amazing young lady and wanted to share a small interview with you.

ShawnPon is an amazing singer and poet in the DC area. She and I first met at a photo shoot where she was the model and of course I was the artist. She and I talked and connected during that photo shoot and I knew it wouldn't be our last meet up. Such a bright spirit Shawn is rooted in her community and enjoys singing. Since meeting ShawPon I have provided makeup artistry for her holiday photo shoot, her music video for her song "Life" , and recently worked with her on her website build project.

Ms. ShawnPon is one driven and her thrive to be successful is contagious!! She inspires me every time we link up. I had the idea to interview ShawnPon, and share her with you all. Being the sweetheart that she is, she was just as excited as I was about the idea. Hope you all enjoy.
ShawnPon & I behind the scenes

The interview...

We've worked together on a few other projects together now. What about LadyLike Makeup Artistry keeps you with us as a client?
ShawnPon: Professionalism (excellent customer service), great products, and education (you always educate me on what to use and what not to use….what works great for my skin)

Who would you credit for your introduction to music?
ShawnPon: I would have to say my Mom. My mom loves Patti Labelle and Lionel Richie...LOL…I can definitely say I know all of their songs.

Who are your musical inspirations?
ShawnPon: I would have to say first God, my family, and artists like Roberta Flack, Diana Ross, and Alicia Keys.

We all can remember our "first". What was the first song you ever performed for an audience?
ShawnPon's & I first photo shoot.
ShawnPon: This is a hard one for me because like most artist I would have to say a song I made up to sing in front of all of my family members as a young child. I literally stood on a box, grabbed my mic and started singing. Nobody knew the song, but knew that I was talented. Over the years I’ve sung dozens of songs in front of audiences, but I would have to say the major “first” is singing on the Apollo. That crowd was tough, but they loved me. I was very proud.

What embarrassing song would I find on your ipod?
ShawnPon: An embarrassing song that you would probably find on my Ipod that I really like jamming to would be Willow Smith “Whip my Hair.” I’m literally laughing right now because she was 12 or so when she made this song, but it rocks lol

What advice would you give someone who wants to be a singer?
Holiday Beauty
ShawnPon: Education and practice is key. Study your craft at all times and work with vocal coaches to really understand how your voice works and how to make it better. Also, confidence; believing that you are talented and you can sing! There will be people that do not care for your music or honestly feel like you can’t sing, but be ok with that. Understand that you can’t please everyone.

What are your favorite beauty products if any?
ShawnPon :Neutrogena make-up remover and cleanser, Cocoa butter, and Lip gloss.

Behind the scenes peek at a few looks I've created for ShawnPon
Where can we find your music and what can we expect from you in the future?
ShawnPon :YouTube (ShawnPon), Twitter, and Facebook. You can expect some really incredible things this year. Including an album, a few videos, and more performances. Continue to check my social media pages for updates or visit www.shawnpon.com

Workshop Success

It's always an high energy day when I'm in the studio holding a workshop.  We got our day started bright and early with skin care, basic knowledge of color correcting, highlighting & contouring and mastering the "No Makeup" technique.  While the day seemed to be a long one ahead of us, once the makeup kits opened up the time flew by.

Students also participated in a  real professional photo shoot with a celebrity photographer. It makes me smile on the inside to see my students learning and excited to execute their skills. Because my workshops are small groups, students have the comfort to ask questions and get direct answers. These students did an amazing job of learning and applying the skills that were taught. Here are some photos of us behind the scenes photos and a few of their new photos going into their portfolios.

If you're interested in attending my next workshop send us an email to be contacted.... ladylikemakeup@gmail.com
